The Beginning

It all started in the fall of 2009 when I entered college at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Being in a sorority was something I had wanted to do all through high school; so after some serious convincing of my parents, they allowed me to sign up through recruitment.  I never went in with the intent to join a sorority because truthfully, I didn't know if it was for me. Upon meeting the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) the first night, my heart quickly knew where my new home was.
On the morning of bid day, I could not contain my excitement when my bid card to Zeta Tau Alpha was handed to me! Little did I know that my life was about to change for the better because of such a wonderful and strong organization. The past four years have been filled with wonderful memories of sisterhood, philanthropy, community service, laughter, and personal growth.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. Little did I know that God would have different plans for me. Beginning my freshmen year at UNCC, I started learning about ZTA's program for college graduates called "Traveling Leadership Consultant", or TLC for short. (You can learn more about what being a TLC entails here). Right away I knew that one day I wanted to be a TLC as well. Throughout my four years in ZTA, many different leadership roles have prepared me for this journey that I will embark on in July. I have been blessed to serve on our Executive Council for three years in the positions of: Recording Secretary, Vice President 1 of Programming, and then finally Chapter President. During these years, I found that besides teaching, I also had a passion for working with college students in leadership roles and helping train them to become better leaders themselves.
Every TLC that visited our chapter helped me grow more as an individual and helped shape me to be the best leader I could be. When applications came out in November 2012 for current college seniors to apply for the TLC position, there was no doubt in my heart that I wanted to give the process a chance. I figured even if I didn't get it, I could be happy with knowing God had other plans for my life. However, after almost four months of writing my application, interviewing, praying, and waiting, I finally received the news that I had been selected as a 2013-2014 Zeta Tau Alpha Traveling Leadership Consultant.

With all of that being said, yes I am taking a year off from teaching right after I graduate but I am so excited for this opportunity that God has given me. I hope that with each chapter I visit, each sister I interact with, that I can leave a positive impact on their life and help them become the best leader they can be. I am so excited to share this journey with you all through this blog over the next year or so and I am even more excited to see what God has in store!
